2008 Kutztown Fair Speedway Press Releases
BRIGHT SHINES IN 600'S; PERCHAK & HENN ALSO TRIUMPH AT KUTZTOWN BY BARRY ANGSTADT
Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Kutztown, Pa. ~  The Phenom, Alex Bright, broke through for his first victory of the '09 campaign on Wednesday night at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. The teenager from Collegeville, Pa. recorded his triumph in the 20-lap main event for the wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints.

Joining Bright in the winner's circle were Ross "the Boss" Perchak in the 270cc Micro-Sprints, Jordan Henn in the Slingshots by Tobias, and Zac Azzalina in the Junior Slingshot division.

Bright started on the pole, but he had to fight for the top spot with Brett Michalski during the early laps of the 600cc feature. After a few furious trips around the oval, Bright cleared Michalski's No. 73b and began to pull away.

Doug Snyder wrestled the runner-up position away from Michalski just prior to the halfway point, but the previous week's victor, Ryan Smith, was the driver on the move as he throttled his JHM Tree Service/ SB3 on the high side of the race track.

Smith, who started 12th, wheeled into third on the 11th circuit, then snatched second from Snyder on lap 14. Although he closed in on the race leader, Smith could not muster a serious challenge to the high flying Bright, who took the checkered flag with room to spare over Smith. Snyder settled for third, while eleventh starting Brian Carber ended up fourth. Jeff Halligan finished fifth.

Bright, Arron Spahr, and Tim Buckwalter were victorious in the three heat races for the wingless 600cc micros.

In the headliner for the 270cc Micro-Sprints, defending track champ Ross Perchak snagged the top spot from Tom Tanner as they charged off turn four to complete the ninth tour.

Two-time winner Ryan Smith blasted into the runner-up position at halfway, but Perchak, the current 270cc point leader at the Fairgrounds, was firmly in charge of this one. Perchak blasted under the checkered by a margin of .619 seconds over Smith, with Matt McAnally finishing third. Tanner, who led the first eight laps, was fourth and Billy Murphy completed the top five at the end of the 20-lap event.

Jay Horvath, Tom Schearer, and Murphy won the qualifying heats for the 270cc micros.

In a very competitive Slingshot feature, Kim Dornblaser shot into the lead from her outside pole starting spot on the opening lap.

"Kid Kutztown", Jordan Henn, rocketed from fifth to second on the first trip around the lightning quick oval, and immediately began to pressure Dornblaser. Henn repeatedly ducked low, but Dornblaser slammed the door on each attempt.

Nate Christman and last week's winner, Jan Acker, joined the party at the head of the pack, with Kyle Lick making it a five-car tussle by the race's halfway point.

Henn finally pulled off the pass on Dornblaser as lap eleven was scored, with Christman and Acker waging a side-by-side duel for third place.

During the event's second half, Henn zipped out to a lead of three to four car-lengths, maintaining command as Dornblaser held off Christman for second. They finished in that order, with Acker and Shannon Smith rounding out the top five at the conclusion of the entertaining 20-lapper.

Slingshot heat race victories were registered by Jason West, Mike Glass, and Dornblaser.

The Junior Slingshots made their first appearance of the season at Kutztown, with Zac Azzalina notching the triumph. Azzalina made a three-wide move to grab the lead, dashing to the inside of his brother, Brandon, and early leader Chris Kurtz.

Aaron Gerhart moved into second with eight to go, but could not catch the swift running Z. Azzalina. Finishing third was B. Azzalina, with T.J. Lilly and J.R. Fulper racing home in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kurtz won the lone heat race for the Junior Slingers.

Racing resumes next Wednesday, July 22, with wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and the Young Guns 390 Sprints in action.

Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. for all events.

Fairgrounds Fodder: as a special treaton Wednesday, bicycle races were held at intermission. Abigail Becker was victorious in the race for three-to-six years-old, while Colton Sterner pedaled to the win in the event for 11 to 14 years-old.

In the four-wheeled action, Kim Dornblaser picked up $100 for winning the Slinghshot Dash for Cash. Dornblaser almost pulled off a clean sweep, as she also won her heat race, then set the pace during the first half of the main event.

Scott Washburn was the recipient of the Russell E. Conrad Heating Oil Hard Charger award in the 270cc feature. Jason VanDoren notched the 600 Scene.com Hard Charger honor in the wingless 600cc main event.

The Slingshots were impressive all night long, as all three of their qualifying heats were highlighted by extremely close battles for the preliminary victories. The feature race was no different, as two and three-wide competition was witnessed throughout the field.

Jordan Henn is the grandson of noted dirt Modified car owner Dennis "Moose" Eisenhard. The Eisenhard team had two cars entered in Wednesday's affair, with Jim Housworth piloting the second car.
