2008 Kutztown Fair Speedway Press Releases
BRIGHT SHINES FOR BACK-TO-BACK 600CC VICTORIES; HARTMAN, MCANALLY, GLASS & REILLY ALSO TRIUMPH AT KUTZTOWN
Wednesday, August 05, 2009

KUTZTOWN, PA ~ Alex Bright is getting the knack of wingless racing.

The Collegeville, Pa., driver registered his first wingless 600cc Micro-Sprint victory of the season at The Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway on July 15. Rolling off the grid sixth in Wednesday's 20-lap feature, Bright worked the outside lane to perfection to post back-to-back wins at the one-fifth-mile clay oval on Racers Roundtable Night.

Driving his family-fielded No. 86, Bright arrived in second place by lap 14. At that juncture, he trailed only former track champion Jason Van Doren, who started from the pole and led from the outset.

Working the middle lane of the speedway, Van Doren provided Bright with the preferred upper groove following a restart with five circuits remaining.

Bright surged ahead on lap 16 and paced the remaining four circuits.

Pipersville, Pa.'s Brian Carber, who started 11th, powered into second on lap 17 and chased Bright to the checkered. Ryan Smith recovered from a lap-six bobble to finish third, ahead of a fading Van Doren and Mark Yoder.

600cc heat winners were Brian Carber, Smith and Van Doren.

Flagtown, N.J.'s Jay Hartman visited Victory Lane for the first time in 2009, leading the entire 270cc Micro-Sprint 20-lap nightcap.  Hartman's Delran Auto Body No. 24 was never seriously challenged.  He held a commanding lead throughout the distance.

Defending track champion Ross Perchak advanced from ninth starting position to complete a last-lap pass on rookie Tom Schearer for second. Schearer posted the strongest effort of his burgeoning career in third. Josh Pepe and Tommy Kunsman Jr. were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Josh Pepe, Steve Walters and Nick Wean won 270cc heats, while the consolation went to Matt Janisch.

Matt McAnally of Warminster, Pa., wired the caution-plagued 20-lap heldover 270cc Micro-Sprint feature from July 22. Jetting into the lead from the front row, McAnally survived a dozen restarts to post his first victory of '09 at Kutztown. Versatile Ryan Smith drove into second on lap four and pressured McAnally during the green-flag stretches, but couldn't unseat the leader.

Trevor Kobylarz brought the Century 21 Park Road No. 05 home third, followed by Billy Murphy and Charles Stone Jr., who started from 24th.

A pair of consolations, postponed from July 22, went to Jay Hartman and Andrew Dietrich.

For the second time this season, Michael Glass of Myerstown, Pa., topped the Slingshot division. Glass made quick work of the field, wheeling into the lead on the third circuit and driving away. Glass won the Goldie Meitzler Memorial back on May 13. Kutztown, Pa.'s Jordan Henn, the grandson of dirt Modified owner Dennis 'Moose' Eisenhard, was second, followed by Kyle Lick, Jan Acker and Nate Christman.

In Slingshot qualifying, Christman, Lick and Adam Brown won heats, while Joseph Kata annexed the consolation.

Matt Reilly won the Junior Slingshot 15-lap headliner over Ed Reilly, Chris Kurtz and Aaron Gerhart.  Kurtz was the heat victor.

Racing resumes with three consecutive nights of action during the annual Kutztown Fair Tues.-Thurs. Aug. 11-13.

The Aug. 11 show will include the Keystone Quarter Midget Club making its first appearance at Kutztown.

On Aug. 12, the wingless 600cc Micro-Sprint feature and Russell E. Conrad Inc. Cash Dash from July 22 will join a full program of 600cc Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots, 125cc Micro-Sprints and Young Gun 390 Sprints. A wingless 270cc feature will be run at the conclusion of the program, presented by Team Kobylarz/Century 21 Park Road.

The Slingshot feature from July 22 will join the Aug. 13 event, which includes touring series races for the Slingshots and Junior Slingshots, plus Senior Champ Kart Flathead and Senior Flat Kart Flathead events. Haldeman Ford Lincoln Mercury of Kutztown sponsor the evening's activities.

The Atlantic Coast Old Timers (ACOT) will be on hand for all three nights of the Kutztown Fair Races.

For the Fair Races, the $25 pit pass will include entrance to the fair. The $8 fair admission will include the race ticket price. Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. for all events.

Car entry remains $20.

Transponders are mandatory for all divisions in 2009. Rentals will be available at the track for $10 per night with proper photo identification.

FAIRGROUNDS FODDER: With Mother Nature cooperating, 24 wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints, 32 270cc Micro-Sprints, 28 Slingshots and seven Junior Slingshots filled the pit area. The Slingshot field was boosted by newcomers that participated at the Reading (Pa.) Fair on Tuesday....

Wild ride for Travis Bieber on the opening lap of the Slingshot feature. Bieber's No. 114 - starting second - climbed the backstretch wall, flipped several times at the entrance of turn three and was hit hard by oncoming traffic. The Oley, Pa., driver walked way uninjured....

Ryan Smith and Trevor Kobylarz were poised to record a pair of top-five finishes in the 270cc twinbill only to be eliminated by mechanical woes in the nightcap. For Smith, it was engine failure that sidelined his No. 2R in the second main, while Kobylarz limped to the infield with a broken shifter cable....

Damage in the heldover 270cc feature kept veteran Terry Schaeffer pitside for the remainder of the night....

Racers Roundtable Hard Charger Awards, worth $25, went to Jonathan Pepe (270cc), Charles Stone Jr. (270cc heldover), Brett Bieber (Slingshot) and Aaron Gerhart/Chris Kurtz (Junior Slingshot). The Racers Roundtable also paid a $25 to 600cc winner Alex Bright and Slingshot victor Michael Glass (first car across the line with a Racers Roundtable decal)....

The 600Scene.com 600cc Micro Hard Charger went to Arron Spahr....

Ms. Area Auto Racing News Melissa Hassall appeared at Kutztown on behalf of the night sponsor....
